Spinner's Study for June, CVM

I just popped in to post my Spinner's Study Notes. I realize it is just under the wire, and there is only one entry, but darn it I have a lot going on right now!

The Romney is pretty much finished--it just needs to be plied. When I have that done I will post it too.

Spinner's Study Notes For June, California Variegated Mutant (CVM)

Basic Info

Purchased from Salisbury hill Farms --came with a nice, personal note and a little info on the sheep that it came from

Started with 6 oz.
Brown/black sheep--both colors combined in a natural-colored roving

Breed info:

The Roving

Prep

Predraft only-- fiber came as nicely prepped, pin-drafted roving

Spinning the Fiber

--Long draw seemed to work best
--The staple was nice and long (4 -6 inches)and had a wonderful sheen
--The fiber was somewhat slippery--very unexpected for such a long staple
--minor amounts of VM, nothing unexpected
--easy to spin
--shooting for heavy worsted

Resulting yarn was nice and even. I would consider it a medium-soft.

That's it for now. Again, I apologize for the clipped posting, but I'm off to back another ten thousand boxes!
