Sometimes it just doesn't work out!

In Knitting
I was very excited about SOTS 3. VERY! I bought the yarn as soon as I found out how much and what colors were reccommended. I ordered some gorgeous beads. I was soooo excited! I loved the way Guinevere turned out. I could have knit a million Guineveres. I was very excited to see if this would turn out just as nicely. I had high hopes.

You see where this is going, right? Well I'm about 1 and 1/2 charts through and I'm pretty darn dissappointed. I'm ok with the fact that it is meshier and airier than the first 2 SOTSs. In fact, its quite nice. But after seeing how the chart is working out, I dunno. I'm just not taken with it. I don't really like the snowflakes (or whatever they are--perhaps flowers?), and so far there are 3 charts worth of snowflakes! eek!

Here is mine. I'm actually progressed a little further than the picture shows, but suffice it to say not much more past the "snowflakes":

I think at this point I'm just going to give it a rest and see how it turns out for others via Ravelry. If I like the overall results, I'm happy to continue. If not, I'll frog it in favor of something I know is good; there are any number of shawl patterns out there that I would love to knit. So many, in fact that I will have trouble deciding!

Since my SOTS 3 is "resting" (different than hibernating, I think!) I decided to work on the Wa na na na na na na nah Bat Shawl!from Anticraft. I knew as soon as I saw it that it must be mine! I am a huge fan of Halloween. I love it all--the costumes, the macabre decorations, even the smell of it. I plan on wearing this everywhere I can during the week leading up to halloween!

Its coming along nicely. I'm using fingering weight yarn, so it seems superfast compared to SOTS or my Kiri Shawl. Here is the progress so far. I have about 4 lines of bats now (only 3 are shown I think):

Please pardon the fuzz and crumbs. Its Wensleydale and popcorn! Oh, and I find Knitpicks Gloss a very difficult yarn to photograph. Its very shiny and reflects light in a funny way. Or it could be my dyeing camera!

In Spinning

Spinning has been very productive since my new wheel arrived. I am simply in love with it. I had a little trouble getting used to the double drive tension, but after a few skeins I think we finally found our groove. Quite a lot of yarn has come out of that beautiful machine since I unpacked it! I haven't spun this much in such a short amount of time since Tour de Fleece!

It rained so heavily the other day that the kids and I had a serious case of cabin fever. I thought what better way to cheer ourselves up than dive into a great big pile of softness and color. They helped me re-organize my fiber stash (yet again) and despite what you may think, they loved every minute of it! And I think we even scared the rain away with all that happiness!

Some pics of the haul:

I especially like the last one. I can totally relate to the "I want to hug it" feeling! I have a lot more pics on flickr, including each fiber individually photograhed (for ravelry stash purposes).

In other news

The Virtual Spin and Knit in was a huge success! And its been mentioned in 2 more podcasts! YAY! We have such a great time. Please please join us! It really does have that knitting group vibe, and not just a collection of people staring at each other. Check out the Stickam page and the Ravelry group. Don't forget: if you want to join us please friend me on stickam, its the only way to enter the "room". A few posts previous you can find an entry on "how to stickam". I plan on posting a troubleshooting guide soon too, since I find the Stickam site is woefully lacking in one.

Also I want to apologize to those of you who subsribe to the blog using a feed. The past couple of posts I have somehow accidentally pressed "publish" before I was anywhere near ready to. It happens when I want to add a search tag, which I like to do as I'm typin so I don't forget. I hope you don't read it straight away and miss a bunch of stuff that I added later on, which is usually where the juicy stuff is!

Of course there is a ton more to say but I don't want to pack too much into one post and have you reading for 6 years. I keep telling myself I'll remedy that by posting more frequently but it is just tough to do! I'm toying with the idea of podcasting, but thats a whole different can of worms for a whole different day!

Happy knitting and see you next time!
